If you chose to clean it – here are out tips on how to clean a toilet bowl that looks as if it’s not cleanable!
There are multiple reasons that your toilet bowl is stained. It could be rust, it could be mineral build up or grime. Whatever the reason is, there are things that you can try to clean that bowl! Here is our list of tips that you can try and we hope at least one of them works for you.
Carbonated soda – it may seem funny but it just might work for you. Here are the steps on how to use a carbonated soda beverage to clean your nasty toilet bowl.
1. Pour one to two cups (or more if you need to cover a nasty ring of stain in your toilet bowl)
2. Make sure to pour the coke around the bowl, not just in the center of the bowl. Try to get it under the rim as well.
3. Wait at least an hour but it’s preferred to wait longer (like overnight)
4. Flush the toilet and the majority of the stains should have been loosened enough by the acids in the coke that the toilet bowl should look cleaner.
5. Repeat the process if necessary.
To remove calcium stains – if you live in an area that has a hard water problem – then the stains in your toilet bowl may be from the calcium in your area’s water supply.
1. You want to make sure that all the calcium stains are not under water. So, turn of the water supply to the toilet and then flush it so that the water level goes as low as possible. If need be, use a plunger to bring the water level even lower. Keep this up until all the calcium stains are above water.
2. Spray the calcium stains liberally with Distilled Vinegar. Let that sit for at least 30 minutes.
3. Pour baking soda onto a stiff brush and scrub away the stains.
4. Turn your water supply back on and you’re done.
To remove rust stains – Those reddish brown rust stains that you may see in your toilet bowl are caused by iron mineral in your water supply. When air combines with iron it causes them to oxidize and the result is the rust color stains that you see.
The Vinegar and Baking Soda Solution:
1) Add 2 cups of white vinegar to your toilet bowl.
2) Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to your toilet bowl.
3) Swish this mixture around the bowl (using your toilet brush) for a minute or two.
4) Let it stand for about 15 minutes.
5) Then scrub the stains. If this doesn’t work as well as you would like, spray lemon juice onto the stains – it may dissolve anything that’s left.
You can also try a commercial product called Bar Keepers Friend. Just wear gloves and goggles when using this product – it does have ingredients that can cause skin and eye irritation.
