Mold is a common problem for homeowners, and can be found in many places around your house. One of the most popular places to find mold, however, is in your shower or bathtub. There are ways to remove mold from your bathroom, but some methods are more effective than others. Check out this article for tips on how you can get rid of mold that is growing in your shower!

Tips On How To Remove Mold In Your Shower

Two “homemade” mold cleaners are:

Bleach / Vinegar

  • Adding 1 cup of bleach to 2 cups of water in a spray bottle
  • Spray the affected areas giving them a good soaking of this solution and wait 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Rinse the areas.
  • If you notice that there are still spots of mold, then spray that area again and use a scrub brush or old toothbrush on that area.
  • Rinse again.
  • NOTE: If you do not want to use bleach, you can substitute that with White Vinegar or 3% Hydrogen Peroxide.

Baking Soda

  • Make a paste by mixing baking soda and water. It should be the consistency of toothpaste.
  • Apply the paste to the mold areas and wait 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Use a brush or old toothbrush to scrub the area.
  • Rinse

Other tips on removing mold include:

  • Clean any mold with a mildew cleaner. You can buy these cleaners in your local hardware or home improvement stores, like Home Depot. Make sure to follow the instructions on the back of the bottle!
  • If you have hard water stains that are near an area where there’s more moisture – for example, around your showerhead or on a tile that’s constantly wet – mix household bleach with water to create an effective cleaning agent.
  • If you’re just dealing with the occasional build up of soap scum, use dish detergent and hot water for a quick fix! You can also use baking soda if your shower has a lot of hard mineral deposits on it from hard water.
  • After you’ve cleaned the shower, make sure that your tiles are dry before sealing them with grout sealer – this will prevent any moisture from building up and attracting more mold.

Getting rid of mold is one thing but you will also want to know how to prevent that mold from growing back.

Tips On Preventing Bathroom Mold In Your Shower

  • Keep your shower curtain as dry as possible by wiping it down after each use..
  • Use a squeegee to remove excess water from the tub and walls of the shower after you’ve taken your shower.
  • Fill any cracks in either the floor, wall or ceiling with grout sealant at least once per year. This is an area that mold can grow in and you want to make sure that it doesn’t have a place to do so.
  • Run the exhaust fan before getting into your shower or bathtub, this will keep moisture from collecting on walls, ceilings and floors. This is one of the most important things you can do for preventing mold growth!
  • Regularly clean or replace your bath mat with one that is made out of anti-microbial materials such as vinyl, PVC, rubber or silicone. These kinds of mats will kill mold that is on the mat and will also prevent it from taking hold.
  • Clean your tub or shower curtain with a solution of bleach and water every few weeks. If you have any clear glass, such as in the doors to your bathroom make sure that it’s clean too!
  • Keep anything on the floor away from walls so that moisture doesn’t collect there. This includes things like shoes or wet clothes.
  • Consider installing a whole house dehumidifier. These work by collecting the moisture that you would otherwise be breathing in and it helps to keep mold from developing inside of your home or around water sources. They can’t control all kinds of humidity, but they are an excellent start!

Is Black Mold In The Shower Dangerous?

Black mold is harmful to humans and animals. It can cause respiratory problems, skin irritation or allergies in people who breathe it in. If you spend a lot of time near black mold without wearing a mask that filters the air then it may affect your health.

The worst thing about black mold is how it can affect your health. If you’re suffering from a respiratory illness like asthma or lung infection, then the toxic spores released by this type of fungus will have an even more harmful effect on you than if they were to be breathed in by someone who doesn’t suffer from these conditions.
