The most common reason a dishwasher would be leaking is due to a leaky gasket on the dishwasher door. Although there are several other reasons that a dishwasher could be leaking, the leaky door gasket is the most common reason that we have seen.

Other Reasons Your Dishwasher May Be Leaking Are…

  • A worn out dishwasher tub – after years of use and exposure to detergents and minerals, the tub in the dishwasher could develop holes, etc.
  • Problems with valves and hoses – it’s not unusual for connections with hoses and valves to become loose or corroded.
  • Poor installation – if your dishwasher was placed on an uneven surface or if the floor under the dishwasher has become uneven – this could cause it to leak.
  • Improper use of dishwasher detergent – it’s important to follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of your dishwahser and use the type of detergents that they recommend.
  • A clogged drain – if the drain in your dishwasher has become clogged or is malfunctioning somehow – water could be backing up and causing it to leak.
  • A malfunctioning spray arm – if the spray arm in your dishwasher has become clogged or has been damaged or is worn out (or if it’s been dislodged somehow) it could cause a leak.
  • Float switch problem – the float switch maintains the proper water level during the wash and rinse cycles and any problems with it could be causing your leak.
  • Water inlet valve problem – this lets water iinto the dishwasher and if it isn’t opening and closing as it should – well that could be your problem.

The leak in your dishwasher could be any one or a combination of any of these reasons but again, more than likely the most common reason is the gasket on the dishwasher door so we would recommend to replace that first.

Why Is Water Leaking From The Bottom Of My Dishwasher?

If you notice that water is specifically leaking from the bottom of your dishwasher than there’s a problem with a component under the dishwasher tub.

This could be a problem with the water pump seal or the water inlet valve. Both parts will have to be taken out and either cleaned if they can be or most likely replaced.

Either way – the dishwasher will have to be disassembled to get to these parts so we recommend that you call in a professional plumber.

As you can see from the list above – there are many different problems that could be causing your dishwasher to leak. Identifying which one or which ones could certainly be a time consuming and laborious job, especially if you are not familiar with all the components of a dishwasher appliance.
